Isaiah 61:3
To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.

So many people are dealing with overwhelming hurt these days and with the Holidays just around the corner, it can at times seem more than you really want to face. I can remember after my Dad passed it took years before my children and I felt like celebrating Christmas. He had died the week before Christmas and so it just seemed like such a sad time of year for us that we seemed to lose sight of what we were supposed to be celebrating. We could have and should have focused on the one who came to bring us joy for our mourning and the garment of praise instead of our spirit of heaviness, but if you have ever experienced the death of someone you loved dearly, you know how easy it is to lose sight of God.

God wants to heal the hurt of all that you have faced and He would love to see you able to enjoy the holidays in spite of any loss you have had to deal with. He wants to heal your heart. He came to heal the broken hearted and to fill us with His joy and comfort. He wants others to see in you all that He can do to heal the hurting. The world is hurting and most are hurting with hurts beyond what we can imagine here. That doesn’t lesson your pain but it should show you that if He can heal their pain, He can certainly be trusted with yours!

God loves you so much, ohhh how He loves you and He truly wants you to lean on Him and allow Him to begin to move and put the pieces of your broken heart back together again. Allow Him today to begin moving in your life and mending your life. Don’t hold anything back. If there’s sin in your life confess it and draw as close to God as you can through this time. Don’t allow the holidays to come and go and you miss out on your blessings of this time. Hold on to Him and let Him show you that He can give you beauty for your ashes, the oil of joy in place of your mourning, the garment of praise to wear in place of your heaviness and when others look at you they will glorify God for all that He has done.

God gives us the ability to remember so we can hold onto the good memories, we can learn from the past but not for us to live in our past. Don’t dwell in the hurts and mistakes of the past, allow Him to give you a new beginning starting today!  If it isn’t you, but you know someone who is hurting due to tremendous loss, please reach out to them to show them the love of Christ!
