If You Want God’s Best You Must Follow Him, One Step at a Time

2 Kings 8: 4-5

Now the king was talking  with Gehazi the servant of the man of God, saying “Tell me all the great things that Elisha has done.”  And while he was telling the king how Elisha had restored the dead to life behold, the woman whose son he had restored to life appealed to the king for her house and her land.  And Gehazi said, “My lord, O king, here is the woman, and here is her son whom Elisha restored to life.”

If you read the full story about this woman, she and her husband were wealthy and they had built an addition on to their home for Elisha to stay in any time he happened to be passing through.  They developed a friendship over the years and had a great deal of respect for Elisha and his leading.  Elisha had told them to leave the land for 7 years because there would be a famine in the land so they followed what he said and left and now she was back asking the king to restore their land.  It  is no coincidence that her story was being told to the king as she was making her petition to get her land back.  She was following God’s leading and it paid off!

Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  If you want God’s best, then like this Shunamite woman you must follow His plan!  You aren’t going to find God’s best by insisting on having your own way and doing your own thing!  With the God of all creation saying, “I now the plans I have for you……” why do you want your own way instead of His, when He knows everything that is coming your way!  He is the God of all creation!  Nothing is too difficult for Him!  He is the God of the Mountain tops and the valleys!  He loves you and cares about every single detail of your life!  Follow Him!  Listen to that still small voice leading you!  Choose His way!

Understand that even though you are following Him, there will still be “famines” in your land!  There will still be struggles in life, but when you follow Him, He will see you through and will guide you if you will follow Him.  Set aside your own agenda for a minute and ask Him what His plan is!  No, it isn’t always easy, but that is life here on earth, but He wants to carry you through those tough times and He wants to grow you up into all you can be.  Some of the toughest experiences in life are also the times of your best growth!  Trust Him!  Do you really think you can come up with a better plan for your life than He can?  You don’t know what is coming but He does!  Give it all to Him!  Ask Him today what His plan is?  Choose to follow Him and you can know that the best is yet to come, no matter how tough it is getting there!
