It Is Time To Focus On Your Future

Philippians 3:13-14
Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

What is it you are missing from the past? Do you miss your old job because maybe the grass doesn’t seem so green on this side of that fence? Do you miss where you used to live and how things used to be?

Let me ask you this; Do you miss the ‘idea’ of it or the reality of it?

Don’t get discouraged where you are if God put you there! We all have a tendency to look back at things and we hold on to the little bit of good in it until we can make it seem in our minds as though it was all better than it was! I get it, I have jobs I miss, a state that I miss, people that I wish I still lived close to but I am where I am because this is where I am supposed to be. It’s easy to look back on things and glorify the good and set aside the bad and there have been times since I moved that have been really tough. Remember, we grow more and faster during those seasons of life when everything isn’t running smoothly and we are forced to seek God in everything!

It is natural to miss people and things from the past and it is good to hold on to the good, just don’t live there and don’t allow it to draw you out of God’s will to go back. If things are tough where you are, God will see you through. He didn’t bring you here to abandon you! He brought you here to draw you closer to Him and to grow you into all you can be for Him and His blessing is on the other side of this valley you are facing right now! So, hold on to those old memories and cherish them knowing that there are great memories to make yet where you are and you know the best is yet to come because He has told you over and over that “He has a plan for you, a plan for good and not for evil, a plan to give you a future and a hope!” Don’t get in the way of that plan by holding on so tight to the past that you can’t see what you need to be doing now. Let it go, loosen that ‘death grip’ you have on the past and know you have a better future in front of you!

It is always darkest just before the dawn so if things seem worse than you could have ever have imagined just know that Satan is just trying to get you to quit. He knows that your answer is almost here and He just wants to throw a monkey wrench into the whole plan God has for you! Hold on to your hope and faith in God and know how much He loves and cares for you, He will bring it to pass!

“Your past is important because it brought you to where you are, but as important as your past is, it is not nearly as important as the way you see your future.” Dr. Tony Campolo
