It’s Time To Get Intentional About Pursuing Him

Deuteronomy 6: 5-9.  You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.  And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart.  You shall teach them diligently to your children and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.  You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.  You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Before you choose to think, “yeah, yeah, yeah, blah, blah, blah, love God, I do love God”, hear me out for just a second.  Do you truly love Him with all your heart and soul and with all your might?  The “might” part is what really stuck in my mind this morning!  How do you love God with all your might?

Bill and I have this overwhelmingly heavy old leather sofa.  It is so heavy you would think it was a sleeper sofa, but it isn’t and yet it is heavier than any sleeper sofa I have ever lifted.  It usually takes at least 3 men to move it and even then they always look overwhelmed when they set it down, we had even decided that once it was put upstairs in the bonus room that when we moved out of this house, we were leaving it!  Well, one day I decided that I wanted a new look in the living room and I couldn’t just run out and buy new furniture so I figured we could just move that sofa and chair downstairs and put what was downstairs upstairs.  Bill was out of town and we talked and he said I was “crazy”, there was no way I was going to get it downstairs without the help of several men. HA!  The challenge was on so I called my mighty, tiny daughter Danielle!  One of my 3 very stubborn children and strong to boot and told her what I wanted to do!  She and I have moved some heavy sofa sleepers and other furniture and we knew that if we could keep from laughing we wouldn’t kill ourselves trying to move this!  I googled it and we had a plan to drag it on it’s back on a huge sleeping bag to the steps that lead out of the bonus room and then drag it slowly down the steps to the living room!  We were in the process when her boyfriend showed up and helped us and he was shocked that we were going to do it alone, but we were determined and we would have used everything in us to accomplish what we had set out to do.  Nothing was going to keep us from our goal.  We studied and figured out what we would need to do and we were determined that nothing would stand in our way.  We were intentional in our planning and had set our minds and we did all that we set out to do.

To love God with all your might, you need to be that intentional!  You can’t be on a day and off a day.  Set your mind!  Determine in your heart that your decisions each and every day will be based on Him and His word!  Take a stand!  Pull together every stubborn bone in your body and determine that He will come first in all that you do!  Determine to be intentional in teaching your children!  Let them see you reading your Bible and praying!  Use His word to guide them in their decisions!  Let them hear you pray about the decisions you need to make in life so they know that you take everything to Him!  Don’t wait until you are in dire straights to go to Him, take every little thing to Him!  If your dishwasher isn’t working, pray over that thing!  If your friend needs salvation, pray for them!  If your finances are broken, pray over those bills! If you want pizza, pray for pizza.  But whatever you do, Love God!  You will love Him more if you spend more time with Him, getting to know Him better!  It is pretty difficult to love someone you barely know!  Read His word!  Love His Word!  Thank God for Him and His Word!  Be intentional in getting to know Him and teaching your children about Him and learning to love Him more!

God loves you so much, He just wants to be close to you!  He wants to walk with you daily and share life with you!  He doesn’t just want to be there for the “big” things in life, He wants you to include Him in every little detail of your life!  Take it all to Him, walk closely with Him and love Him with everything you’ve got in you and you can know that truly the best is yet to come!
