1 Samuel 18: 12-16
Saul was afraid of David because the Lord was with him but had departed from Saul. So Saul removed him from his presence and made him a commander of a thousand. And he went out and came in before the people. And David had success in all his undertakings, for the Lord was with him. And when Saul saw that he had great success, he stood in fearful awe of him. But all Israel and Judah loved David, for he went out and came in before them.

If God is in the process of promoting you then no one and nothing can stand in His way! Don’t worry about it!

David had been set by Saul over all of the men of war before this, so Saul was “demoting” David by just making him a commander of a thousand men. Saul was jealous and felt threatened by David’s success and the fact that all of the people loved him, including his daughter Michal. All of the “demoting” Saul could muster though, wasn’t going to stop God’s plans for David and the same goes for you.  If you are the “Saul” in this scenario, then you need to ask yourself, why you feel so threatened by this other person and realize that God gave you gifts that are significant to you, there’s no need for jealousy especially jealousy that is hindering the work of God!  You don’t want to set yourself up for God’s discipline because you are fighting Him!

This example may seem small in comparison, but it just goes to show that it doesn’t matter what level we are talking about, God is still in control! When I first moved to Tennessee, I found myself between jobs and before AACC hired me to work in Xtreme Youth Alliance, I took a waitressing job. I was a single Mom and needed every penny I could possibly bring in! There was a young woman at the restaurant I was working at and for some reason she wasn’t real fond of me, I am not real sure she liked very many people, period, but anyhow I think she worked at keeping our shifts apart. I didn’t mind, I just needed to make money and I wasn’t about to get caught up in the silliness. I did my best to get along and left it at that. It was crazy though because my shifts were changing all the time. One day I overheard the owners laughing in the back so I asked what they were laughing about and they said, “Sue (name changed) has been insisting that we change her schedule to yours every week because we are always busiest when you are working, but we are telling her today that we cannot continue to do that, because it doesn’t matter when we schedule you, that is our busiest times! If she wants to work when we are busy, she will have to work with you!” That was God looking out for a single Mom, it is His provision.

I just want to encourage you today that if God is on the move to promote you in life then there isn’t anything that anyone can do to change that! Stay faithful, don’t get discouraged that others seem to be working against you or getting the promotions you believe are yours, they cannot change what God is doing as long as you remain faithful! Hold on to Him, trust Him through whatever discouraging things you are facing today, knowing that He is in control and He will bring to pass all that He has planned for you! The best is yet to come and could be right around the bend!
