Just Another Ordinary Christmas? I Don’t Think So!

Luke 2:15-16
When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger.

So, what had started out as just another evening out in the fields watching the sheep, turned into a historical, magnificent, glorious moment for them all and for us today!

So…… how about you? How are your plans going for Christmas this year? Is it pretty much the same ole’ same ole’ again this year or are you changing things up a bit? I would love to encourage you to, if you aren’t already, do something more this year! Find a way to celebrate Jesus birth in a new way by doing something for someone new! If you don’t have a Compassion child, maybe you could decide to go on their website and pick out a child together and change that child and his or her family forever! (Check out this video of a child’s reaction to finally being sponsored click here )  Bill and I have 2 and I am taking a look to see what gift we can give to their family that will help create more income and food for the entire family, because that is an option that Compassion gives you! Maybe you could check with your church to see if there’s someone in the hospital that could use a boost this Christmas with a care package, our church ladies are doing one for a 13 year old who will have to spend Christmas in the hospital with cancer. Maybe there is a single parent in your church that you could bless. One year my cousin and I had our kids bake some Christmas goodies with us and we took some baskets of goodies to all of the elderly in our small church and the kids sang a Christmas song for them when they delivered them. It doesn’t have to be something grandiose, just something from your heart to show the love of Christ this year! Don’t allow your life to just become routine this Christmas! Shake it up a bit and try something new!

Maybe one of the things that you could do this year is to make sure that you take the time to go over the Christmas story with your children! Make sure that they understand that Christmas is about Jesus, not just “santa”. Read them the story and make sure that they understand that this isn’t a “fairy tale”, this story is true and will change their lives, just like it did that night for the shepherds!

Whatever you do, don’t miss the opportunity this year to make a difference in someone else’s life by showing the love of Christ.
