Isaiah 61:3

Give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.

God has promised us these things. Wow!  How great it is to know that His plan for us is to replace our sorrow and heartache and heaviness with His beauty, joy and praise.  Why do I find myself some days then having to remind myself of all of this and boy if I don’t catch it early on that “spirit of heaviness” can run me over like a truck until I am so negative I almost need someone to slap me with the “garment of praise”!  If you think your day is not going so good just remember Job:

Job 1:20 – 21 At this Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head.  Then he fell to the ground in worship and said:  “Naked I came from my mother’s womb and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.”

These verses came right after Job had just lost EVERYTHING!  He just lost all of his children in a freak accident where one of their houses fell on all of them and killed them.  He just lost all of his cattle, sheep and camels and all but 4 servants within minutes of each other.  While one servant was telling him about the cattle another one showed up to tell him about the sheep and while he was finishing his story another came to tell him about the camels and while he was finishing speaking another servant came to tell him all of his children had just died!  Wow!  Do you think Job felt like praising God?  But he did!  Do you have those days where maybe you just don’t feel like worshipping or you don’t “feel” like taking a stand for something you know to be right just one more time.  Maybe you just don’t feel like working at that relationship, whether it is a friend, parents, your children or maybe a spouse.  Somehow, as my daughter Danielle has been known to say, “I’m just not feelin it today.”  I believe we all get there occasionally but what do you do when you feel like that?  The only way to have victory is to JUST DO IT!  You don’t have to feel right to do right!  Put on some praise music, read your Bible or maybe a Christian book with some humor to it and just do it.  Eventually the feeling of peace and love and worship will follow, because God has promised it but sometimes you have to just do it in order to get there!

Funny quote for the day:  CHURCH BULLETIN BLUNDERS:

“The ladies of the church have cast off clothing of every kind, and they may be seen in the church basement on Friday”
