1 Chronicles 16:43
Then all the people departed each to his house, and David went home to bless his household.
When you get home from work, church, or recreational time and you walk through that door are you blessing your household? Your words are important! Are you known for blessing those around you or complaining, fussing over everything and cursing your household? We need to be careful that we are setting the example and right tone for our homes.
I learned early on with my children that if I worded things in a positive way – and trust me there were days I had to really get creative, it was more affective. For example (as crazy as it may sound) if I were to say, “you always leave the door open” they would continue to leave the door open, when I changed it to “hey, you left the door open, that is so unlike you, remember to shut it next time.” they learned to ‘remember’ to shut the door. When I want to remember something I always say, “I will remember……” I don’t say the word ‘forget’. Try to avoid the negative words and speak the positive instead, it will make a difference.
Now, do understand, I am not saying there isn’t a place for negative words. Correction is necessary and beneficial and there are times that a situation just deserves the truth and the truth is, there isn’t anything positive to say about it, it’s time to face reality.
Our words should reflect the fact that we have an almighty God living in us and in our homes. What if you could physically see Him, what would your words be like then? Just because you can’t see Him doesn’t mean He isn’t there. Have you ever said something and then found out someone was standing nearby that you really didn’t want to hear what you just said? Well, guess what ……. God hears and sees it all, He hasn’t missed a thing. God would like to help if you will allow Him to. It starts by allowing Him to fill your life, heart and mind with Him, nothing else, just Him. The more full of Him you become the more of His words you will speak and then you will know they are right!
We can all use more of God in our hearts and lives. We need to allow Him to fill our thoughts, attitudes and motivations for all that we do and say. Words are powerful and they cannot be taken back. Words heal and build up or they break apart and tear down and the truth of the matter is; it is your choice what comes out of your mouth. Let’s all pray today that God will fill us with more of Him so we can be more like Him and so our words will be from Him. Ask God each morning to “create in me a clean heart, and renew a right spirit within me.” as it says in Psalm 51:10.
