Matthew 5:16
In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Does your light shine for Him or is it just a little flicker now and then? When your light does shine is it for Him or is it to bring some sort of “glory” to yourself? Is it all about Him or you, or are you really more worried about what others think about you than anything?

If God has given you a voice to sing, then sing for Him, don’t try to kid yourself, He knows who you sing for. When God gives you wisdom to teach, be sure that you are teaching for Him as well. All wisdom and all gifts of the Holy Spirit come from God so whatever area you are gifted to serve Him in, make sure you are using it to glorify Him. Remember when Solomon was building the temple, God told Him which men he had given he ability to work with stone or wood or tapestry, He has given you gifts, (abilities) to be used for Him as well. So whether or not you are in ministry, or you are teaching children in school or working in an office, God has given you talents and you can use them every day to shine His light to draw others to Him.

Now, what about your words? Do they glorify Him or do you maybe need to get a grip on them? Do you use your words to spread gossip? Are your words with those you love harsh and judgmental? Are your words spoken to bring glory to yourself? Do you use rough language to fit in or to look tough? I remember going through a rebellious stage and my words were not at all what they should be and God really convicted me that I needed to be more concerned about what words came out of my mouth. The really dumb thing is that I remember thinking the first time that I used a swear word that, “now, I fit in”. Really? How stupid is that? Fit in to what? If people don’t like you because you don’t use swear words, then there’s something wrong with them, not you! If you feel you have to swear to fit in or to look tough, give those areas to God and allow Him to give you strength to be you and to shine for Him, you don’t have to prove you are tough or that you fit in. (Again, “fit in” to what?) My High school English teacher always used to say, “when you swear you show your ignorance to be able to use a better word.” God wants every area of your life to shine for Him and your words reflect what is in your heart!

When you read the Old Testament about all of the Kings of Israel you can see how their life was so much better when they sought God and lived for Him, versus when they chose to be like the other nations around them! What a great lesson for us! You will find God’s blessing, living for Him and giving Him every detail of your life instead of trying to fit in with the world. Let your light shine! Be the best you there is to be and be it for Him and watch what He does! Don’t worry about what the world thinks is right, look to Him and allow Him to show you a higher standard. God made you to shine for Him, He made you beautiful and He gave you the ability you need to serve Him in whatever capacity He leads you in. Follow Him, seek Him with your whole heart, don’t hold anything back, knowing that in Him, the best is yet to come!
