Losing Yourself

James 1:6
But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavers is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

Have you ever lost yourself? It seems to be more common in women than men because we get so focused and caught up in being a wife or mom, a friend and or co-worker or maybe even a lifestyle. The point is; are you really you?

I know I have had stages in my life where I was so busy and stressed the things that had been central to everything that was important to me were set aside as I took on a new character that not even I recognized. I was more easily irritated instead of someone who could relax and enjoy life. I was so consumed with “stuff” that I missed simple things like sunrises or sunsets. I was too busy to enjoy the people I loved, I was just whizzing through life doing everything that needed to be done and falling just short of “wonder woman” or so I thought.

All of those things are important but not nearly as important as what we lose spiritually. When we get that busy and we start losing ourselves my personal experience is that we also lose meaningful time with God and then it isn’t just the fact that we are not spending time in His Word it is also our prayers that are diminished to just the simple prayer on the run. We end up with a fast food version of our relationship with God squeezing Him in wherever He might fit into our busy schedule. Once that happens our faith dwindles and it is all downhill from there.

Maybe it isn’t you, maybe it is a friend or loved one. Whoever it is, it is time to get back to what’s important. Trust me, if you don’t slow down and search out what is really important in life God has a way of slowing you down. He does it for our good so we don’t miss out on the really great and important things in life, those simple things that restore our faith and walk with Him. As Corey TenBoom once said, “if Satan can’t make you bad, he will make you busy.”

Don’t allow the business of life cause you to waver in who you are or your walk with God! Remind yourself today of what is really important in your life.
