Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
Ah, ah, ah ~ if you are single, before you decide this isn’t for you, let me say….. yes it is!
The key words here ladies are “train up a child”. It doesn’t happen on it’s own, your child is going to learn what they live and they will learn from outside influences, it is your responsibility to train them!
WooHoo! School is back in session in most places or it is about to be! What are you going to do with all that “extra” time on your hands? I know some of you are saying, “what ‘extra’ time, I work full time”, or you are even busier because your children are homeschooled, so maybe a better question is ~ what changes are going to take place in your home now that school is starting and how are you planning on handling it? If your children are going to be attending a public school this year in the U.S., you may want to take a good look at what they are being taught about sex and sexuality so you can be prepared to train them at home in what the Bible says about all of that! Don’t be afraid to buck the “system” with your kids when it comes to taking a stand and teaching them the truths of the Word of God and encouraging them to take a stand! Back in our day it was “evolution” and that was the only thing I was ever sent to the principles office for ~ I disagreed with the Science teacher and he got tired of my bringing up scripture so he sent me to the office. The principle was a Christian so he just laughed, but it isn’t that ‘easy’ today for our children and grandchildren.
If there is ever a time to be sure your kids are in church all the time, it is seriously during the school year ~ you need back up! Your children need to hear from other adults that what you are teaching them is truth and they need all the godly examples they can get! I know there’s homework and busy schedules to deal with and it would seem the easy thing to do would be to eliminate church, but trust me you need the back up these days! Here is one of the things you can do when you are single! There are children all over out there who know nothing about the Word of God and they don’t have an adult who cares enough to teach them! Take the time to volunteer at church to help teach the kids, you were a kid or teen once and you have more to offer than you think you do, if you will just allow God to use you in this area! Maybe there are kids in your area that need to have someone reach out to them and invite them to youth group or Sunday school. Every child deserves to have an adult in their life that cares deeply enough to reach out and teach them what is true and right!
Training up a child is a process and it doesn’t happen on it’s own, you must be intentional both in how you live yourself and in the process of raising and training your children!
When your children come home, ask questions. Find out what is going on with the other kids, find out what the teachers are saying. I was a single Mom but let me tell you, not much happened in that school that I didn’t know about. If I didn’t agree, I fought all the way to the top against what went against what was right for my kids. Parents need to stand up and say, “you will not teach my child that all of these “sexual things” are ok!” If enough parents took a stand and went to their Congress men and women, governors and Senators and said, “NO!” we could change that curriculum. Don’t allow anyone to tell you what is best for your children other than God! If you won’t stand up for your children, who will? Show your kids they are worth fighting for by teaching them what is right and taking a stand in your local school!
I am certain that in some countries, you can’t fight the ‘laws of the land’, but God will fight for your children as you train them in His word! He will protect them and keep them and will reveal truth to them as you teach them in your home! Never underestimate the power of prayer!
There’s nothing more important than training up that child the Lord has loaned you to raise for Him! Make it a priority in your busy schedule and find the ‘back up’ you need! Pray for the children, the teachers and administrators, pray for our government officials! Pray for each other! I am praying and will be praying for all of you!
