Make Yourself & Your Time With Him a Priority

Luke 10: 41 But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary, Mary has chosen the good portion which will not be taken away from her.”

It is so easy to get so busy that we are missing out on spending time with Him.  Don’t allow your service for Him to take the place of spending time alone with Him!  And, don’t allow the struggles you are facing in life to fill your mind to the point that you are consumed with it, and you miss time in your Bible and on your knees in prayer about them.

I love to serve others; in fact, I have loved working in the service industry over the years because I am very comfortable serving others.  There is nothing wrong with serving others; we are called to serve others. So what was the problem here with Martha?  I can almost feel her pain here as she is thinking about all the people that were in the house that needed to be served, and there sat her sister, while Martha was trying to do everything. On top of that, she was so busy she didn’t get the opportunity to sit at Jesus’ feet and listen to Him.  She knew that the people were all there because of Jesus, and Martha loved Jesus, so she wanted everything to be perfect. But, she loved to spend time with Him too, so who was Mary to just sit and let her do it all?’  Ladies, there are times when the needs of others need to take a backseat to your time alone with God. It won’t hurt for them to wait for you to be able to do what you need to do for yourself and your walk with God. Don’t let anything or anyone take that time from you.  The dust can wait!  Washing the windows can wait! There’s nothing more important or more pressing in life than you growing closer to God because that is where all of the answers for everything else you face in life will be.

I personally have found that it is easiest for me if I set aside the same time every day to have my quiet time with God.  I started getting up early to have my devotions before anyone else got out of bed. I include my time to pray on my schedule for my day, so I can be sure to have that much-needed time to talk with God and also to ask what is on His heart!  I encourage you to protect your time with Him and not to allow other things to get in the way.  You will find your days will go much better as you spend that valued time with Him!
