1 Thessalonians 5:15 See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone.
So, when someone does something wrong to you, what is your first response? Are you ready to get even or give it to God and let it go? I have to admit that my first thoughts are not always the right thoughts so I have to stop and ask God to help me give it all to Him and leave it there. Have you ever watched a toddler with a clenched fist, holding onto that candy until it is oozing out? The candy is no longer any good because it has melted but they just don’t want to give it up and yet if they would open their hand, they would have something so much better! Don’t be like that toddler! Open your hand and give it and them to God and allow Him to do something better in your life!
We are called to rise above the standard others have when it comes to how we treat each other. Our natural human instinct is to lash back when someone is mean and hateful, but we are called to rise above! We are called to behave like royalty because we are children of the Most High God, the King of Kings! God loves you, and he will take care of the people who are hateful and mean, in fact, He certainly can do a better job of it than you can so leave them to Him! As it says in Romans 12:19, “Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, ‘Vengeance is mine, I will repay,’ says the Lord.” Who do you really think is going to be better at settling the score; you or God?
If you run around trying to get even with other people all the time you don’t have time to focus on the things you really should be doing! There’s so much good you can do to show the love of Christ. Avoid those people who you know are just going to be hateful and push your buttons if it is at all possible and focus on good things! Don’t allow past ills done to you to fester until you are at the boiling point and you can’t focus on anything and you are just worthless! Focus on God and His goodness and allow Him to use you to show His goodness to others! The best is yet to come!
