Matthew 22:37-39
Jesus said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment, and the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
How do you love? Do you love God and others with a selfless love or do you love with the idea of ‘what’s in it for me’?
God loves us so much and Jesus was our example of total selfless love. He was willing to die for us even though we didn’t deserve it. He loved in a way that drew people to Him when they saw Him.
So often in relationships one of the biggest issues is that we love with the intent that we will get something in return. I have watched parents abandon their teenage daughters because they became pregnant instead of reaching out in love and guiding them in love because they were embarrassed. I have seen marriages where spouses don’t seem to show much love unless they want something from the other or they are so needy for love, they miss truly loving anyone else.
People are hurting all around us and sometimes something as simple as a smile or a ‘hello’ can brighten their day. I bet there are people you are close to that could use some love without anything else attached today, no advice, no conditions, just love. There are times to just reach out in love and their are times to correct and give advice, sometimes a day of love needs to come first.
Reach out today to someone in love. Show the love of Christ to them. Allow God to fill you with His love for others and seek to bless the people He puts in your path.
