Sometimes You Have To Step Out First…

Hebrews 11:1-3,  Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.  For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.  By faith, we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.

Hebrews 11 is known as the “faith” chapter of the Bible because it tells us about the men and women of faith from the Old Testament.  They trusted God to do what only He could do.  Part of our biggest struggle with faith is believing that God will do what only He can do in our lives.  It comes down to control, somehow we feel more comfortable having our hands in it because we want to make sure it gets done either our way or in our time, not the way that He sees as best.  Here is how Hebrews 11:1-3 reads in my Jewish Study Bible:  “Trusting is being confident of what we hope for, convinced about things we do not see.  It was for this that Scripture attested the merit of the people of old.  By trusting, we understand that the universe was created through a spoken word of God so that what is seen did not come into being out of existing phenomena.”   We can struggle and fight, trying to accomplish what we believe we need instead of trusting God to do what He sees fit when all He has to do is “say the word” and where will that get us?  He created everything by just speaking it ~ why do we find it so difficult to trust Him to handle our situations?

I totally understand how scary it can be when you just can’t see how anything good can come out of what you are facing, but God promises that He will use it for His glory.  Trust Him and stick close by His side.  Don’t look around, look up!  Keep your eyes on Him.  Trust Him, that is what faith is all about.  If you read about Abraham when God told him to go and sacrifice his son, Isaac, Abraham fully believed that he would come back home with his son even if he had to kill him.  Now we know that God didn’t have him kill his son and God provided the sacrifice, but Abraham had no idea how God was going to work it all out, he just believed that He would.  When he told his servants who had traveled with them to wait at the camp, he told them that they would be back after the sacrifice.  He believed God and the fact that God had told him that God would bless him through Isaac and his seed.  If you aren’t sure what God is promising you then dig into His word and seek Him with your whole heart.  Jeremiah 33:3 says, “Call to Me, and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.”

Whatever God is calling you to do, trust Him with it all.  Read the entire chapter of Hebrews 11 today and see what those people had to trust God with.  Noah spent years building an Ark while people stood by and ridiculed him, but He trusted God and the list goes on.  Read it and if you haven’t been spending time with Him, get started today.  The more time you spend with Him the more confidence you will have in His love for you and His plan for your life.  Your answer to all you are facing will lie in trusting Him and taking that step of faith that He has been calling you to.  Pray about it and seek His face so He can show you all He has planned.  Carry Jeremiah 29:11-13 with you and don’t allow satan to distract or discourage you, cling to God and trust Him to see you through!
