Spread a Little Love

1 Samuel 23:16. And Jonathan, Saul’s son, rose and went to David at Horesh, and strengthened his hand in God.

When David was running for his life from Saul the king, Jonathan the king’s son took the time and risked his own life to go out to David and encourage him, reminding him of God’s promises to make David king in place of Saul and Jonathan.  Wow, this was not just a simple inconvenience to Jonathan, he chose to not fall into the trap of jealousy even though being king was his right, humanly speaking.  He knew God had chosen David and he willingly followed God and loved and supported his friend.

We live in a busy world these days even though we have technology to speed things up.  We have so many new ways to make our lives easier than they were 30 years ago but we seem to have less time for other people.  We text half the time instead of having meaningful conversations, we choose to be too busy to know our neighbors (we live in a subdivision and I know one neighbor), we don’t have time to start that Bible study in our homes (ouch – I need to get on that one!)  But, more importantly than all of those things; where are we when someone is struggling in life, are you willing to inconvenience yourself, to mess up your schedule, set aside your pride and go and encourage them in the Lord?

Jesus said when asked what the most important commandments were: “you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and your neighbor as yourself.”  We need to be more open to God using us to breathe life into others when their hope is gone or they are hurting and in need.  People are hurting everywhere you turn and they are more desperate today for someone to reach out in love than they have ever been. If we are so busy that we don’t have the time to encourage others we are way too busy!

Ask God today to show you how you can be an encouragement to those around you.  If you are hurting and frustrated today, may I encourage you by reminding you that God has kept track of every tear and He is working on all that you are facing, He loves you and He wants you to draw close to Him through this, this situation didn’t come to stay, it came to pass.  Hold your head high and know that God isn’t finished moving in your life and He will fulfill all that He has promised, you can be confident in that, He is faithful!
