STOP For A Minute & Just Be Still For a Second!

Psalm 46:10, “Be still, and know that I am God:  I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”

There are different times and reasons God may tell you to “Be Still”.  Usually, we use this verse when we need Him to fight for us and that is what we need more often than we may think.  Too often we get frustrated because we are fighting a battle that He never intended us to fight and then we get stressed and overwhelmed.  It is so important to ask that question before you just jump into the heat of the battle:  is this yours to fight or do you need to get your hands off, close your mouth, and allow Him to fight for you?  His best is on the other side of that answer if the answer comes from Him.

Another time He may be telling you to be still is when you have decided you have it all figured out and you set Him aside for a minute while you “do your thing”, or maybe you are following someone else’s “thing”.  You must stop for a moment and ask whether or not He wants you to do that “thing” the way He may have them doing it.  We are not all just stamped out with the same plan, even if we are doing somewhat the same thing.  So, maybe you are an interior designer and instead of designing with the passion for the ideas that just flow through your mind, you try to force yourself into designing the way someone else does because you know they are successful ~ how well do you think that would work?  I am guessing not very well, there would be no true success until you used the talents God put inside you.  I saw the cutest meme yesterday!  So many women use the quote, “She thought she could so she did”  to inspire each other and this one had a little girl sitting on the steps holding a little sign that said, “She thought she could, so she did and now she’s in time out!”  It cracked me up and I thought ~ how many times have I done that with God?  “Hey God, watch this….I’ve got this” or “this person has life all figured out, over here…” and voila ~ He puts me in time out!  He tells me to “Be still a minute Janet, while I clean this up over here where you ‘thought you could and you left me out of it’ and then I will show you the way.  I have it all mapped out for you!  Remember?  I have a plan ~ Jeremiah 29:11-13”

It is so important to take the time to be still and listen to what He has to say and to allow Him to shed His light on your path.  Your path is just that ~ the path that He gave you!  It won’t always look like everyone else’s but He has a plan for you and He wants to use your story!  Don’t worry about what someone else has to say unless God has put them in your life to help guide you.  Godly counsel is important.  God wants to walk with you.  You don’t have to figure everything out on your own.  His desire is for you to seek Him in all you do so you can truly know that His best is yet to come!

Remember:  Jeremiah 29:11-13,  “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.  You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
