That “Stuff” Can Wait….

by | Jan 14, 2015

Luke 10: 41
But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary, Mary has chosen the good portion which will not be taken away from her.”

It is so easy to get anxious and frustrated even though we may be serving God in what we are doing to the point that we are missing out on spending time with Him. Don’t allow your service for Him take the place of spending time alone with Him! And, don’t allow the struggles you are facing in life to fill your mind to the point that you are consumed with it and you miss time in your Bible and on your knees in prayer.

I love to serve others, in fact I have loved working in the service industry over the years because I am very comfortable serving others. There is nothing wrong with serving others, in fact we are called to serve others, so what was the problem here with Martha? I can almost feel her pain here as she is thinking ‘about all the people that were in the house that needed to be served and there sat her sister while Martha was trying to do it all and on top of that she was so busy she didn’t get to sit at Jesus feet and listen to Him. After all, the people were all there because of Jesus and Martha loved Jesus and loved to spend time with Him too, so who was Mary to just sit and let her do it all?’ Ladies, there are times when the needs of others needs to take a backseat to your time alone with God. It won’t hurt for them to wait for you to be able to do what you need to do for yourself and your walk with God, don’t let anything or anyone take that time from you. There’s nothing more important or more pressing in life than your growing closer to God because that is where all of the answers for everything else you face in life will be.

I personally have found that it is easiest for me if I set aside the same time every day to have my quiet time with God. Everyone in the house knows that is my time with Him and whatever they need will have to wait unless it is truly an emergency. I encourage you to protect your time with Him and to not allow other things to get in the way. You will find your days will go much better as you spend that valued time with Him!

How would I cite your work? I was wanting to use what you said in That “Stuff” Can Wait…. to go along with a devotional I do almost every day.
basically, as I go through my devotionals (I use different ones), I pray God will give me the verse of the day & the words to go with it.

In this case, both the verse & words came from this devotional. I post it on my Facebook wall & in a group I created on Facebook ‘Daily Snack of God’s Word’. I also send it out to about 50 people in text every day. Eventually I hope it would be something I could put in a desk calendar I am trying to put together.

Here is what it would look like for using your information:
Luke 10:41 NKJV “And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried an troubled about many things.”‘
‘Don’t allow the struggles you are facing to fill your mind to the point that you are consumed with it and miss time in your Bible and on your knees in prayer.’ Janet Scott, Chocolate&God
I am looking for your permission to use on:
Facebook = my wall & group
    text messages
    desk devotional

And I am looking for information on how to cite it correctly.

God bless you and what you do.

Thanks for taking time to write. You can use some of the stuff in Chocolate and God and just give reference to where you go it and link if possible. Share it on social media with no problem, but please don’t put anything in print, only because it copyrighted and will have a conflict with any publisher that I work with. I hope that helps and thank you so much for reading Chocolate and God. Keep up the awesome work that God has called you to with your devotional as well. Many blessings.
