The Fringe of His Garment

Matthew 14: 35-36. And when the men of that place recognized him, they sent around to all that region and brought to him all who were sick and implored him that they might only touch the fringe of his garment.  And as many as touched it were made well.

Those men didn’t just look for a few answers to prayer, they were looking for everyone who was ill to be brought and healed!  They knew if they could just get to Jesus they could find healing!  Do you or someone you love need to just touch the “fringe of Jesus garments today?”

I believe in the healing power of God!  Do I believe that everyone is healed every single time?  No, or we would all live forever!  I do believe that there are times we don’t have healing though because we don’t pursue it!

The other day, Abby and I were out for lunch and I had the “privilege” of  eavesdropping on a couple of older women who were sitting behind me.  One of the ladies was telling the other one that she had just really felt impressed on by God that we miss healing opportunities during worship time in church.  She mentioned that one of the most powerful times of a church service is when we are all together singing and praising God and that while the Spirit is moved by praise, people should feel that they can quietly go forward to be prayed for by others for healing.  That made me think about the fact that we seem to have dismissed anointing people with oil and praying for them over the years ~ why?  James 5:13 -16 tells us, “Is anyone among you suffering?  Let him pray.  Is anyone cheerful?  Let him sing praise.  Is anyone among you sick?  Let him call on the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.  And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up.  And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed.  The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.”  Do we miss out on seeing God move in this way in our lives because we don’t believe and we don’t ask?  After lunch I of course apologized for eavesdropping but told them that I appreciated their wisdom and they were so precious and wonderful saying I should join them, I didn’t of course, but how often do we miss out too on the wonderful wisdom of the elderly because we aren’t listening?

I believe each of us should really search our hearts today and ask ourselves if there’s someone who needs to “touch the fringe of His garment today”.  Is there someone you know that the only thing keeping them from being anointed and prayed over is pride because it just isn’t done regularly anymore?  What would it hurt to try and to believe God for His goodness and healing and leave the answer of your healing to Him this time!  Even if the answer is no this time, at least you would know you tried everything, but what if the answer is YES, you don’t want to miss out on His yes!  You have nothing to lose and everything to gain!  Trust Him today, don’t allow pride to stand in your way!  Ask God for healing from that illness or addiction ~ whatever, but don’t miss out by not asking.  No matter what His answer is, you can know that the best is yet to come and it is only found in Him!
