Psalm 77:1-9,
I cried out to God for help;
I cried out to God to hear me.
When I was in distress, I sought the Lord;
At night I stretched out untiring hands,
And I would not be comforted.
I remembered you, God, and I groaned;
I meditated, and my spirit grew faint.
You kept my eyes from closing;
I was too troubled to speak.
I thought about the former days,
The years of long ago;
I remembered my songs in the night.
My heart meditated and my spirit asked:
“Will the Lord reject forever?
Will He never show His favor again?
Has His unfailing love vanished forever?
Has His promise failed for all time?
Has God forgotten to be merciful?
Has He in anger withheld His compassion?
Have you ever been in that place where you wondered if things would ever be good again? When you look around, it seems that there are so many people who have lost all hope. There’s no doubt the world is a mess. Right is said to be wrong and offensive, and wrong is supposed to be unopposed as being right. There’s so much confusion! Since we know that satan is the author of lies, then we also understand that is where the confusion comes from.
As Christians, we are not exempt from having those moments when we wonder if things will ever be “good” again, but in those moments we need to cling to our hope in the Mighty God we serve! We must remember that He is our refuge and strength, and it is because of who He is that we know that He will see us through whatever comes our way. If we live as though we don’t have any hope, then our testimony to the world is lost. They want hope. They are in desperate need of God’s truth!
After the Psalmist poured his heart out in despair he then said:
Then I thought, “To this I will appeal:
The years when the Most High stretched out His right hand.
I will remember the deeds of the Lord;
Yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.
I will consider all your works
And meditate on all your mighty deeds.”
Your ways, God, are holy.
What god is as great as our God?
You are the God who performs miracles;
You display your power among the peoples.
With your mighty arm you redeemed your people,
The descendants of Jacob and Joseph. (And through them He has redeemed us by sending Jesus to save us from our sins.)
When you or someone you know is in the depths of despair, remember who He is and all He has done.
God is the God who performs miracles. He can take any situation and turn it around and use it for good! He is not a god who is far off; He is by your side. The more you focus on Him and all He has done, the more faith and confidence you will have. He has not forgotten or overlooked you and your situation. Trust Him! The more troubled you feel, the more you should cling to Him by turning on some praise music, praying, and spending time reading His Word. We live in the days when satan is raging and on the war path trying to drag away everyone he can by any means he can, but remember that he has seen God and he trembles at the thought of Him. He knows God always has the final say. Stand firm in your faith, put your Ephesians 6 armor on, and walk closely with God. He will give you peace beyond what you can imagine, and He will carry you through all of the craziness satan tries to throw at you! While satan’s days are numbered, God’s greatest promises of spending eternity with Him are in front of us. Live eternity-minded, knowing that His best for you is yet to come!
