To Train Them or Not To Train Them… That is The Question

Matthew 19:14
But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.”

Children learn what they live! However they are raised is what will be their “normal”. If they are raised in a godly home where God comes first in all that their parents do and say then they will feel that is “normal”. If they are raised in a home where God takes a back seat to everything and church is either optional or non existent they will learn that is what is “normal”. It is our responsibility to make sure that our children, grandchildren and any other children that are given to us to influence know the way to God!

If you pay attention, each generation takes what is done by the parents and 9 times out of 10 when it comes to God, they often do what their parents did at a lesser level. Now there are times, I will say, that the children by far surpass any thing their parents would have even thought to have done for God as well, but I think that can also be a result of prayer by the parents for their children when they were young. Raising a child to know, love and serve God is not something that should be taken lightly, it should be one of the most important things we could ever do. I have watched as some parents choose to totally cut out the church in every form and now their adult children don’t even read their Bibles, what a horrible loss. Is the church perfect? No, neither are you, but if you have a problem with the church, seek God to be all you can be and ask Him to help you make a difference in the church, not just for yourself but everyone involved. Be the difference you want to see for the sake of your children and others!

“Children are a heritage from the Lord” Psalm 127:3 That is not something to take lightly. We all make mistakes as parents, but we should do our best to raise them for God, it is truly the best gift we can ever give our children! If you are looking for resources for your church or even as an individual, I would encourage you to check out my sister’s web page and resources for Mom’s for your church. Josie was a Kindergarten teacher for years and Director of a couple different preschools, she is an amazing Mom, wife, Teacher and loves children. Her website is www.its4umom.com ~ check it out!

Every child on earth deserves to have at least one person who adores them and cares enough to show them who they are in Christ and to lead them to Him! Take the time today to make a plan for how you can better teach your children or grandchildren or any other child God brings to you. Show His love to them and teach them, you may be the only Jesus they will ever see!
