Trust Him

Jeremiah 17: 7-8  “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord.  He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.”

Who do you trust in?  Do you truly trust the Lord?  I’m not just talking about when you need something or having the faith to be healed from illness, I am talking about truly trusting God on every level.  What happens when the “heat” gets turned up in your life, for example maybe at work you start suffering the consequences of things you don’t deserve or your boss looks for reasons to single you out and give you a difficult time when you don’t deserve it – what’s your reaction?  Do you still trust in God that He has a reason for allowing it in your life?  What if you lose your job for no real reason? What if your spouse cheats on you?  What if you find your best friend really hasn’t been a “best friend”?  Do you get angry with God or do you trust Him to bring you through to the other side?

According to these verses if we truly put our trust in Him we will “grow where we are planted”:  when a tree grows by water and it’s roots stretch out sideways they are not as stable as a tree whose roots have to go deep to find water.  So, if you are like a tree whose roots are shallow you will have to trust God to hold you up and sustain you when your stream drys up in the “heat”.  When the heat gets turned up in your life and you feel as though you could fall you need to know in your heart and mind that He will provide and the evidence of that will be that your hope will remain (your leaves will still be green).  No one will be able to rob you of your hope for what God has in store for you because you will know that He has a plan and His plan is for your good no matter what things look like right now.

What happens to your faith and trust when everything is going wrong and you feel as though there is a complete drought in your life.  No matter where you turn you you see devastation in your life and you begin to wonder if things will ever be good again.  If you just hold on to God and you don’t allow yourself to become anxious your faith and trust will be evident by the fruit you will still bear as you continue to push forward.  If your “fruit” is dependent on everything going great in your life then you are not trusting in God at all.  If you have faith and you trust Him then you will continue to serve and be productive regardless of your circumstances – will it always be easy? No, but God will sustain you and will provide you with all you need as you lean on Him.

Please let me encourage you today to put all your trust in Him!  He loves you and wants to be there for you through the good and the bad.  He wants to hold you up and provide for you no matter what is going on around you.  If you are lacking in this area ask Him to give you the faith and trust you need to get to the other side of what you are facing.  Ask Him to help you to be productive for Him regardless of what is going on around you.  Remember and hold onto the promises of Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future an a hope.” Write it down, put it in your car, your purse, tape it to your bathroom mirror and remember it every time you begin to get discouraged.  As you trust Him you will begin to see how good He is and your hope will return.
