Isaiah 1:16-16
“Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean; remove the evil of your deeds from before my eyes; cease to do evil, learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, and plead the widow’s cause.”

It’s time to evaluate our daily choices! What choices do you make on a daily basis that you feel aren’t “really all that bad”? One of the things you can count on is the fact that satan is very subtle. If he can ease you in to thinking something isn’t so bad, you wear down eventually to to the point where some sins just don’t seem like that big of a deal. I know this isn’t one of those fun topics for a study, but if you are really wanting to follow God and develop a closer walk with Him, then I can almost assure you that there are things in your life that probably don’t need to be there. It is sort of like “Spring cleaning”, it is a dreaded task, but you feel so much better and refreshed after you are done!

Let’s jump in and start with the ‘obvious’: what are you watching on tv? If Jesus came to your house for the evening would you sit down with Him to watch your usual shows? Do you think He would find the same things funny and entertaining? Well, guess what? Yes, you know that if you have accepted Him as your Savior, you are subjecting Him to all that you watch and do, so how’s that working for you? Does it please Him? Do you think He is waiting with as much anticipation for you to sit down and fill your mind with what you are watching and reading as you are? Do you get as excited about spending time studying His word as you do for “your show” to come on? Hollywood does a great job of easing people in to thinking that some sins are just “normal” and harmless, but all sin is repulsive to God! Remember ~ Garbage in, garbage out! What are you filling your heart with? Psalm 119: 11, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” I know of the addiction to a show too, and I know that you are probably thinking…… “but if I stop watching ‘_____ _____________ ___________’ now, I won’t know what happens to ‘___________’! They are characters on a tv show! It doesn’t matter what happens to them, it is make believe, but I get it, it is a tough choice. Make the one you think will honor Him.

Now, how about those kids of yours? (You know, I kept asking God this morning if this was what I should really be writing about because I am really not wanting to tick anyone off, but…… here we are) What are you teaching them on a daily basis by your choices? My daughter and I were just talking yesterday about how generation after generation seems to drop things that we feel are seemingly little habits or traditions and as a result generation after generation suffers for it. When I was growing up, you weren’t excused from the table until we read scripture, whether it was a verse off a card or “The Daily Bread” devotional ~ where did that tradition go in my life? It stopped at home when I was a teen, I’m not sure if they gave up or what ~ just kidding, but for some reason it stopped and I didn’t carry that on to my children. What a shame! Do your children see you read your Bible and pray every day? What do you allow them to watch and read? Are they filling their minds with good or ugly? Do they read about godly heroes or witches and warlocks? I know, I know, the whole series of books full of spells and witches and warlocks isn’t “as bad” as I think, I have been told that a million times, but is it uplifting and good for your children? Is that what you want their minds filled with? Is there nothing better? The choices you make in what you allow while they are in your home will shape them for the rest of their life! Remember this verse when you think of raising your children, Isaiah 7:15, “He shall eat curds and honey when he knows how to refuse the evil and choose the good.” Train your children to choose the good and to refuse the evil! You only have one shot at this with them, make good choices! Teach them that ~ that book or show may be ‘ok’ but let’s choose better! Let’s choose something that you can sit down and talk to God about!

Even when it comes to relationships; choose wisely! Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.” Make sure that you have friends in your life that are up lifting. I am not saying that you can’t have friends that need you to lift them up, or that you shouldn’t have friends that aren’t Christians, I am saying that you need to have some friends that help build you up in God, so you can be all He created you to be! Have friends that help hold you accountable, that are encouraging in your walk with God, so you can be a light to everyone else around you!

Please, let me encourage you today ladies; I know many of these choices could be tough to change, especially any connected to your children, but it will be worth it! Clean anything out of your house that is giving satan a foothold in your life, seriously, get rid of it! What movies, books or tv shows need to go? Pray about it and seek God’s face! I would encourage you to remove anything in your house that is giving satan even a tow hold in your home! If there is something that you are almost irritated about getting rid of that God has spoken to you about, ask yourself why it is that important to you? Don’t buy the lie that you can’t live without it or that you will somehow be “missing out!” Seriously, the only thing to worry about missing out on is all that God has in store for you! The best is yet to come!
