John 16:13-15, “But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on His own; He will speak only what He hears, and He will tell you what is yet to come. He will glorify me because it is from me that He will receive what He will make known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what He will make known to you.”
Jesus was explaining to His disciples that even when He was gone to heaven they would still know what to do and how to live because He was sending the Holy Spirit to guide them into all truth. Sometimes I think we miss how truly blessed we are to have the Holy Spirit living within us, I cannot even imagine what it would have been like trying to live for Him without His Spirit with me all the time, in every situation, and for every decision I need to make. We are so blessed!
Do you remember WWJD? What Would Jesus Do? Have you ever read the book? If you have never read it I would highly encourage you to! The title of it is In His Steps by Charles M. Sheldon. (If you click on the title it will take you straight to Amazon to buy it). The challenge proposed to his congregation in the book, by the pastor of a church in the town of Raymond, just outside of Chicago was for one year to not make one decision, big or small without asking themselves, “What would Jesus do?” While the book is Christian fiction, the challenge is one we should all consider. What a great way to keep your focus on Him!
Think of the change it would make in us and around us if we paused before making a decision and asked ourselves that! What would we do differently? How would we treat every person that crossed our path? What changes would we make on a daily basis?
When one member asked how they would know what He would do and the pastor used John 16:13-15.
When we take time to study His Word, spend time in prayer, and allow the Holy Spirit to speak to our hearts and guide us in our walk with Him, we will know. God won’t ask you to do something and then not provide a way for you to know how or what to do. He wants to guide you so you can be all He created you to be! He loves you! So, what do you think? Are you up to that challenge? Would you be willing to base every decision for the next year on what Jesus would do? It’s a thought….. If we want His best and we want to serve Him in all we do, then He needs to be a part of every decision. In order for us to bring change to the world we must allow Him to make the necessary changes within us first.
