What’s The Rush?

by | Jun 4, 2015

Psalm 46:10
Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!

What is the rush? We have become such an instant gratification society that we seem to have difficulty waiting for anything. Everywhere you turn people are in a hurry for something ~ fast food restaurants are popping up everywhere, microwaves are in every home across the U.S. even though we know it isn’t healthy and food tastes better that isn’t cooked in a microwave. People are rushing to buy a new house, get a new job, buy a new car, get the latest and best cell phone on the market. Sad to say it is the same way with relationships any more, people are in a hurry to get in them and then in a hurry to get out of them and then once they are out, they are in a hurry to get back into a new one!

STOP IT! SLOW DOWN! For just one day I would like to challenge each of us to stop and talk to God about it. Maybe you are supposed to buy that new car, but maybe you need to pray first about that choice or especially that “loan”! Maybe you are supposed to change jobs, but maybe the job God has for you isn’t that one you are willing to take to just get you out of the one you are in. Maybe you do need to walk away from that relationship, but allow God to lead and certainly don’t be jumping into a new one right away ~ take the time to heal and build your relationship with God!

Faster isn’t always better people and believe me I am a woman with the “need for speed”! Make sure that whatever changes you are making in your life that God is leading you. Make sure if He is leading you that you are following and not dragging your feet out of fear! Don’t get ahead of God but you also don’t want Him to have to drag you to the place you need to be either. There are seasons for everything and reasons for everything with God. Ask Him to guide you and show you what it is He has for you and then, “Be still and Know that He is God!”, He loves you and wants what is best for you. God has promised in James 1:5, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” He will give you the wisdom you need for the plan He has, Jeremiah 29:11, “”For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Well, how do you think those plans are going to come about if you are running from one thing to the next without taking a breath, never asking God to lead and guide you and give you wisdom for the journey? Stop it, slow down and know that He is God (JSV-Janet standard version of Psalm 46:10) If you want the best of all that God has for you then you need to be following Him in all that you do! The best is yet to come!

“Men are anxious to improve their circumstances, but are unwilling to improve themselves; they therefore remain bound.” James Allen, As A Man Thinketh
