Psalm 95:1-2
Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into His presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to Him with songs of praise!
The holidays seem to be sneaking up on us faster than usual this year, I was thinking this morning that it seems like it was just the other day that I took down the picture of snowmen and now I am looking forward after Thanksgiving to putting it back up. What happened to the year? There has been so much that has happened with everyone I know this year as with all years, losing loved ones, new beginnings, babies being born, etc., and now the holidays are upon us and many of those things will affect us as we celebrate. Just the other day I was looking at a picture of two of my grandchildren and thought about emailing it to my sister so she could print it off for my Mom and then remembered that my Mom is no longer with us.
This year let’s do our best to keep our eyes on what is important during the holidays. It’s a great time to set aside differences, choose forgiveness and focus on family and God. The holidays are a great time for reminiscing about the wonderful memories we have not dredging up old grudges or sadness. Those relatives who have passed would want you to celebrate the holidays with fond memories, not losing yourself in grief.
On the material side of things; I saw a commercial the other day and the woman went on and on about having all of the best decor and the best gifts and the most expensive this and that until I was literally shocked. No one probably enjoys decorating this time of year any more than I do and I have to go to stores with blinders on so I don’t buy more decorations when right now we can’t really afford to do that. Ohhhhh if we had an unlimited amount of money to spend I could have some serious fun, but would that be what is really important? There’s nothing wrong with decorating and having fun with it, but it shouldn’t be our only focus, we need to be sure that we are spending time truly focussing on being Thankful for all God has done, is doing, and will do in our lives. Christmas should be focused on God as well, celebrating Jesus birth and sharing it with friends and loved ones. It should be a time of joy and having fun and praising God for His goodness.
Ask God to guide you through the holidays so you can thoroughly enjoy them and glorify Him at the same time in all you do!
