John 16:26-27  In that day you will ask in my name, and I do not say to you that I will ask the Father on your behalf; for the Father himself loves you because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God.

Stop for a moment and remember who you are!  Not who you think you are, not based on what you have or don’t have, not based on what you have or haven’t done, not based on what someone else thinks or says you are……Who does God say you are?

Jesus said in these verses that we will ask in His name, but He won’t have to go to God the Father for us because God Himself loves us for believing in His son!  How awesome, how amazing…… the God of All loves you just because you believe and because He created you.  He doesn’t love you for all you can do, He doesn’t love you because of what you have or haven’t accomplished, He certainly doesn’t love you because of what you have, He loves you because you believe and you are His!  John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life!”  He loves you so much He was willing to send His Son, so He could love you, even more, when you chose to believe in Him!

I have watched too many people, especially young people, who get a great surge in their self-esteem based on what they have.  That is such an easy trap for all of us to fall into because who doesn’t love nice things!  It is ok to love nice things and to feel good about getting something nice, just don’t allow that to become your identity!  If your self-esteem comes from what you have, what will happen if you lose it all?  Who will you be then?  Where will you find your self-esteem?  I was fascinated and yet sad to see a young Multi-Billionaire who created a game and he has so much money he doesn’t seem to know what to do with it.  His frustrations have come from the fact that he doesn’t know who his real friends are anymore.  He needs Jesus!  He could have anything He could possibly want that money could buy, but he is depressed because now he not only isn’t sure who he is, he isn’t even sure who his friends are.  Let’s face it, you are not what you own!  True fulfillment comes when you understand who you are in Christ!

Spending time getting to know God better and building that close relationship with Him is where your self worth needs to come from!  You are His creation and He loves you!  He has created you with a purpose in mind and He has built in the ability to accomplish all of that within you! He made you for great things ~ His things!

Don’t allow someone else to tell you who you are!  Don’t allow things to determine how you feel about yourself!  Ask God to show you who He created you to be and how you can best use the talents He has given you to fulfill all He has called you to!  When you grasp who you are in Him and what purpose He has for you, nothing can stop you from being all you were created to be!  Don’t buy satan’s lies about you and certainly don’t repeat them!  Hold on to the truth of God’s word!  The best is yet to come, but you need to believe in yourself and Who God says you are!
