Exodus 36:1. “Bezalel and Oholiab and every craftsman in whom the Lord has put skill and intelligence to know how to do any work in the construction of the sanctuary shall work in accordance with all that the Lord has commanded.”
God placed the skill and intelligence in these people to know how to do what they were called to do! Hmmmmm. What about you? Do you think it is a mere coincidence that you are called to do what you are doing and that you have the talent to do it? Or maybe right now you are doing something like these people were and you are wandering in the “wilderness” trying to survive wondering if you will ever get to use your skills again? I would guess that as these men were traveling they were very doubtful that they would ever use their God-given talents again.
First of all, I want us to think about the fact that the talents we have are from the Lord. If God has called you to do something He has already placed the ability in you to do it so stop fighting it! Don’t allow fear to stand between you and the will of God for your life!
Then as I was reading all of the verses about the details of what they were to build and how each thing was to be done in extreme detail I thought to myself at first that it all just flowed as they worked and were sewing materials and putting it all together because God gave them those talents and He was overseeing it! What? Wait a minute, does everything you do when you are doing the will of God just fall into place? Is it always easy and fun? In my experience, no it is usually some of the most difficult work I have ever done and it ends up stretching me to new levels to prepare me for even greater things in the future. I would imagine that while in Egypt as slaves these men worked hard for Pharaoh feeling as though all they were doing was simply survival they never dreamed that they would one day be building a sanctuary for the Lord to dwell among them!
Where are you today? Are you happy in doing the will of God with the talents He has given you to serve Him with or are you grumbling and fighting Him all the way? Be careful that you don’t complain yourself into a situation where God gives your job to someone else.
Are you maybe waiting for God to give you something to do with the talents He has given you? Are you doing something right now that doesn’t feel as though it is your true calling? My daughter is working right now in a job that she doesn’t mind but it isn’t really where her gifts or passion are so I keep reminding her that there are times we may have jobs that aren’t our “favorite” but they are given to us by God to prepare us for what lies ahead. The key is that whatever you are doing it should be done so God gets glory for your work. We should always do what we are called to do right now to the best of our ability, without grumbling. Very seldom is anything worthwhile, easy.
