You Can’t Live in Fear and Faith at The Same Time

Joshua 24:15, “And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell.  But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

I know we have discussed before the fact that every day we choose who we will walk with because every day there are choices to make:  how you will walk, talk, dress, what you will read or watch on tv, where you will go, etc., but today let’s take it one step further and ask “who are you putting your trust in?”

There are so many verses in the Bible about faith:  “The just shall live by faith” (Romans 1:17), “… and without faith it is impossible to please God.”  (Hebrews 11:6) “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”  ( 2 Corinthians 5:7) and the list goes on and on.  We are called by God to live by faith.  We are to put all of our trust in Him.  So how much do you trust Him today?  Are you walking in faith or are you paralyzed with fear because of the fact that the world has gone mad?  The Bible tells us in 2 Timothy 1:7, “For God has not given us a Spirit of fear but of power, of love, and of a sound mind.”

You can’t have faith and live in fear!  I have been there before and living in fear is a terrible place to be.  When you choose to walk by faith, trusting that God sees, He cares and He will walk through this life with you and will take care of you is choosing to walk with God.  When you are paralyzed with fear you are choosing to sit and hold satan’s hand, missing opportunities that God has for you to be His light.  Oh, there is a lot to be afraid of it you take a look around or listen to the news, but God is still on His throne and we are called to believe that He sees the whole picture and He has promised to do what is best for His people when they follow Him.  Use common sense and don’t live recklessly, but don’t live a life so paralyzed with fear that you are useless to God.  We must see this world as temporary and stop and think for a minute of how literal eternity is!  Eternity definition is infinite or unending time.  Wow!  This life is quite brief in light of how long we will live after this.  God loves you enough to have prepared the way for you to spend all of eternity with Him, why would He not have a plan for you today?  If you believe that Jeremiah 29:11-13 is still relevant:  “For I know the plans I have for you”, declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.  You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”,  then what is holding you back from trusting Him?

I would like to encourage you to take all that is heavy on your heart today and lay it at His feet.  Give it all to the only one who can do anything about it.  Clinging to your fears will not save you!  Give it all to Him.  Open your heart up to His leading.  Ask Him to guide you in to all He created you to be knowing that truly His best is yet to come!
